What is Elvira's Kitchen?

Chefs always have a secret for creating memorable dishes. Some rely on a closely guarded assortment of herbs and spices, while others may rely on an impressive presentation to tempt the most particular palate.

Elvira McCauley had only one secret recipe which she openly shared with others – kindness.

In every meal she created, Elvira added sprinkles of her humor, a dash of her generosity, and a few cups of her warm spirit to create a delicious masterpiece.

She was loved by both staff and residents on the campus of Sayre Christian Village, often relieving the dining services staff to prepare and serve home-style meals herself for the residents.

Above all else, Elvira McCauley left an impression with all of those she served and her legacy of good food and strong faith will continue to touch others.

How Can I Help?

In her memory, Sayre Christian Village created a food ministry in 2005.

Appropriately named Elvira’s Kitchen, this ministry reaches out to low income residents of Sayre Christian Village by providing hot meals, basic kitchen staples, meal tickets, and food baskets.

For many older adults, a helping hand can make a tremendous difference.

All requests for assistance from Elvira’s Kitchen are strictly confidential. Your tax deductible donation will ensure that our older adults share in a warm, comforting meal.

We do not want our residents to have to make the difficult choice between food and their medications.

Your financial gifts to Elvira’s Kitchen will help sponsor nutritious meals throughout the year for the low income older adults residing at Sayre Christian Village.

Our residents look forward to our summer cookouts (held June through September) and our annual Christmas dinner sponsored by Elvira’s Kitchen.

Because Elvira’s Kitchen helps sponsor a number of special events throughout the year, we are also in need of volunteers at these events. Please email Angela Mullins, Life Enrichment Director or learn more on our volunteer page.

Sayre Christian Village is a 501c3 organization and contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

When donating, please make checks payable to Sayre Christian Village and designate “Elvira’s Kitchen” in the memo line.

Elvira McCauley’s Legacy lives on through the naming of our food ministry providing food and assistance to older adults in need, “Elvira’s Kitchen”. Elvira dedicated herself to provide warm, delicious meals to the residents of SCV, believing that in the spirit of generosity, your simple act of kindness can help an older adult enjoy a nourishing meal.

Your generosity helps to provide hundreds of thousands of dollars annually in unreimbursed care, equipment, spiritual programming, activities programming, transportation, and volunteer services.
